Thomas R. Saavedra, Ph.D.



Thomas R. Saavedra, Ph.D., founded Becoming Unlimited in 1995 and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer.  Dr. Saavedra earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1971, his Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida in 1979, and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the International College in 1983.  His doctoral dissertation entitled, “Becoming:  the Person and the Therapist” provides an integrated model of clinical intervention strategies most likely to preserve interpersonal authenticity, thereby, improve outcomes.  Dr. Saavedra has been licensed by the State of Florida as a mental health counselor since 1982 and has served as a leadership and organizational development consultant since 1984.

While serving as Director of the region’s most productive counseling center for five years, Dr. Saavedra also provided instruction and clinical supervision at the graduate level. In 1984, he was instrumental in developing Hillsborough County Government’s first employee assistance program involving leadership and organizational strategies for improving productivity. His company was the sole provider of these services for ten years.

When working with individuals, Dr. Saavedra’s services include advising senior leadership, developing leaders and managers, preventing derailment of valued contributors and facilitating the resolution of costly interpersonal conflicts. When working with teams, Dr. Saavedra’s method emphasizes personal responsibility and peer accountability to improve attitudes, behaviors and processes impacting targeted business objectives. When working with organizations, Dr. Saavedra concerns himself with facilitating a cultural transformation that will enhance the organization’s capacity for achieving its business objectives.

All of the above involve an array of strategies which include individual, team and organizational diagnostics, 360 degree feedback and change management. Dr. Saavedra recognizes that the most effective strategy for enhancing human performance initially involves facilitating the awareness necessary to motivate and empower, then ensuring the achievement of desired results through the acceptance of personal responsibility.
